He’s on the inside and doing what he can to make a buck. The muscle piece and war between the Barksdale crew and Marlow was just business. Both Marlow and Avon understand the importance of the corners and both have respect for each other. Neither of them would let anything personal get in the way of things.

Avon might run things on the inside, but he’s not getting out soon and this is a way to make a buck. Marlow wanted to talk to the Russian and really could care less about Avon. Even if he got out, he couldn’t put together anything that would rival Marlow at this point and he’s not a threat to Marlow. $100k to a Barksdale for the connect is pennies compared to what he’ll make being the wholesaler for parts of the city he doesn’t have.
